SCENIC Shores has already made local sporting history after competing in its first District Sporting meet with a cross country team on May 1.
The competition was described as “a big effort for a small school”.
The team comprised eight students aged 10 to 12 and took out the Primary School Percentage Shield, just beating Sheldon College.
This shield is designed so smaller schools can remain competitive, even though larger schools still have the capacity to win.
Student Atticus Hobbs also became the school’s first district representative after placing fifth in his race.
Teammates included Leo Boyle, Sophie Makarenko, Aby, Poppy Lukowski, Mason Matthee, Caleb Greyling and William Turnbull, all trained under HPE teacher Glen Robinson.
School business manager Kelly Marc said preparation was “not ideal”.
“The school had only completed its school event two weeks before. Our school represented strong, with lots of comments made about the new school. How good the uniforms looked and how well the students competed,” she said.
“All of our students ran to the best of their ability, digging deep to earn each and every place.”
