From learning to leading: Skill development initiatives shaping the future of Redlands

Across Australia, the way we work is changing. Jobs are evolving and many are yet to be created – meaning that upskilling is an important consideration for future growth. The Redlands Regional Jobs Committee is here to support Redlands community on their career development journey with initiatives such as its Jobs Board and Get Skilled Directory and is sharing stories from those who have successfully upskilled and advanced their career as a result.

Allison Brown, Business Development Manager at Home Health Care Service Home Instead
Redlands & Logan, is an advocate of upskilling throughout one’s life.

“The RRJC has got an array of different platforms that you can look at in regards to your career development. You’ve also got the likes of TAFE and independent learning. Every element of your experience brings benefit and value, [which is why] we’re always nurturing everyone to excel in themselves.”

Tanya De Landelles is one such individual, who has progressed from being a “green” Case Worker at Home Instead to a Case Manager, who is now able to help her clients “from the other side”.

Home Instead’s Head of Caregiver Training, Christine Burke, also acknowledges the positive
impact upskilling has on individuals’ overall morale.

“By upskilling our caregivers, it helps them feel confident and supported … they’re armed with the tools they need, and they feel like a part of the team.”

Andrew Hocking, Business Manager at TAFE Queensland, and Craig Eades, TAFE Queensland’s Director of Senior College and Community Pathways, highlight the benefits of
pursuing a tertiary course at a local TAFE:

“Alexandra Hills TAFE is particularly passionate about promoting Redlands. Our teachers are also connected with the industry in the area, so we’re really in tune with what’s needed in terms of upskilling and can tailor courses that are specific to their requirements.”

“We’re also backed by the state government with fee-free TAFE, so people without the economic accessibility can still access a wide range of courses.”

Are you ready to embark on your upskilling journey? For an in-depth insight into the impact of upskilling, watch the accompanying video, and visit the RRJC’s Get Skilled Resource Hub to find additional ways to unlock your career potential here in Redlands.
