IT was a milestone afternoon on Sunday as Redlands United stalwart Michael Lee marked his 200th first team appearance for the club in a tightly contested 1-1 draw with Ipswich FC.

The veteran midfielder, who arrived at Redlands in 2010 after time with Manchester United’s academy, was honoured for his outstanding service to the club – including his pivotal role in Redlands’ 2012 Veto Brisbane Premier League Premiership and the unforgettable 2016 NPL Grand Final triumph.

Fans also fondly remember his equalising goal in the historic FFA Cup victory over A-League champions Adelaide United.

With windy and cold conditions greeting the players, Sunday’s match kicked off with intensity as both sides looked to assert early dominance.

Redlands shaded possession in the opening exchanges, but Ipswich proved dangerous on the break, pressing high and making it difficult for the home side to settle.

Redlands keeper Joel D’Cruz marshalled his backline well, but the visitors struck first when the referee pointed to the spot in the 31st minute following a tackle in the box.

Jac Parrott stepped up and converted the penalty to give Ipswich a 1-0 lead.

Determined to honour Lee’s milestone with a result, Redlands lifted their tempo.

A Michael Lee free kick into the box created chaos in front of goal, with Max Ellenger denied twice in quick succession by Ipswich shot-stopper Pat Millard.

But Redlands’ pressure finally paid off just before the break when Isaac Garcia reacted quickest to a bouncing ball from a corner and headed home the equaliser.

The second half saw both sides push for a winner, but the defences held firm.

Redlands were well-organised at the back, with Sea Fuel Man of the Match Noah Hitchcock leading by example in a composed display.

Ultimately, the match ended all square – a fair reflection of a competitive contest that celebrated one of Redlands’ greatest contributors.

Redlands now turn their attention to Round 20 where they face Caboolture Sports FC away at Moreton City.
