A REDLANDS performer is making national waves, with local talent Harlan Goode securing a place in the Top 6 of Australian Idol.
The Year 12 student has emerged as one of the standout contestants in the competition, earning a fast-track into the Top 6 after impressing judges and audiences alike.
Harlan said the moment still feels unreal.
“It is absolutely crazy. I can’t believe I’m here, but at the same time, I can, because I know how hard I’ve worked,” he said.
“It still feels surreal. I keep thinking back to my audition day, balancing a Year 12 performance, flying down to Sydney for filming, and keeping it all a secret from everyone.
“It’s been such a whirlwind. I feel so honoured to be here, living my dream every day, and I’m incredibly grateful to have so much passion driving me.”
The Redlands local said being selected directly into the Top 6 was one of the most intense moments of the competition.
“I honestly can’t describe how much it means,” he said.
“Standing there waiting for your name to be called is one of the most nerve-wracking and terrifying feelings I’ve ever experienced.
“But hearing that I was safe made me feel like my performance really connected, that I gave absolutely everything I had on that stage. It was such a validating moment.”
With the competition tightening, Harlan said he is focused on delivering his best performances in the weeks ahead.
“I’m really looking forward to performing the songs I’ve planned, especially if I make it into the Top 3,” he said.
Reflecting on the journey so far, he said the experience has been about more than just performing.
“Besides from receiving a hug from the Kyle Sandilands… One of the most rewarding parts of this experience has been learning from my fellow contestants,” he said.
“Both Lily-Grace and Simela (or as Lily and I like to call her, “Stinky”) have taught me so much about myself and have truly made this journey even more special.
“From being silly during group numbers to having deep and meaningful conversations, I’m so grateful to have formed such amazing friendships.
“Beyond that, I feel like I’ve really gotten my foot in the door within the industry.
“The people who work on this show have incredible experience and portfolios, and I’ve loved being able to learn from them and pick their brains about the industry.”
Harlan’s rise marks a major moment for the Redlands, with the young singer now firmly in contention for a place in the grand final.
Australian Idol continues 7:30pm Monday on Seven and 7plus.
