Redlands United and Peninsula Power could not be separated in an up-tempo round 11 NPL clash at the Compass Grounds in Cleveland.

The game continually moved from end-to-end as Redlands played their usual attacking brand of football.
On 20 minutes, Ryo Emoto’s first time volley from inside the box was turned around the post by Power’s keeper in a diving save.

This was followed by Peter Klaassen’s effort which grazed the outside of the post.

Guil Santana had the final chance of the half when his angled shot was able to be blocked by the keeper.

That ended the first 45 minutes with neither side able to get on the scoreboard.

The end-to-end nature of the game continued in the second half, with the Redlands attack pushing hard and Power looking for the counterattack.

Redlands’ well-disciplined defensive unit held firm as Power pressed even harder to get something from the game.

Despite both sides creating attacking opportunities, the scoreline remained nil-all after 90 minutes.

Fiction Bar and Restaurant’s Redlands man of the match went to defender Noah Hitchcock for the second week in a row.

Redlands United head coach Daniel Varma was not displeased with the clean sheet but said his side needed to take their chances at the top level.

“We have been guilty of not doing this the last two weeks,” he said.

I have excellent attacking players at this club and they know how highly I regard each of them. However, more precision is needed in key moments.

“Last night this was the difference, as in my view the game should have been decided when I addressed my squad at half time.

“That said, from a defensive point of view I had 11 players who work so hard defensively. They all fight for each other.

“A special mention to Guil Santana for his development defensively this year, it has become a pure asset.”

Redlands will hit the road again on Saturday for a 5pm kick-off against Eastern Suburbs in the Kappa Pro Series.

“Again [this is] another opportunity for the squad to stay in contention for silverware,” Varma said.
