FRESH seafood, proximity to the islands, and a range of modern amenities at your doorstep are among Redlands’ unique qualities.
These features are just some of the reasons why, 18 years after moving to the area, British expat Lee Aston believes it’s still the best place on Earth to live.
“There’s such a wide range of lifestyle choices,” the Harcourts Real Estate agent says. “You have the beach for swimming, fishing, walking, and then all the amenities of a city.”
Mr Aston arrived in Redlands with his wife and three young children, and they chose the area for the same reasons many people still do today.
“It’s the lifestyle,” he says. “The weather, the natural environment – it’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors.”
Another bonus of living in Redlands is the proximity to the islands. Mr Aston’s favourite getaway is Flinders Beach on North Stradbroke Island.
“We might go for the day or stay and camp – it’s the perfect place: relaxed, quiet, and naturally beautiful.
This is the type of place where it’s BYO firewood,” he says.
During his 16 years in real estate, Mr Aston has worked with many people who have discovered the beauty of Redlands and made it their home.
“Whether you are downsizing, retiring, or coming with a young family, there is something here for everyone.”

While the area boasts a range of sporting facilities, Mr Aston enjoys live stage shows, particularly musical theatre. He often attends performances at RPAC (Redland Performing Arts Centre) or QPAC (Queensland Performing Arts Centre) in Brisbane’s CBD.
His son’s involvement in musical theatre has deepened his appreciation for the genre.
“I’m going to see Grease at QPAC this weekend – a couple of my son’s friends are in it,” he says.
Another item high on his list of regular activities is enjoying fresh seafood.
“We have great local retail seafood places around here,” he says. “Fresh and locally caught – it’s fantastic.”
Mr Aston is also proud of the community’s active voice. Whether residents are for or against an issue, they care enough to speak up and make a difference.
This commitment ensures that while housing grows, the natural environment remains appreciated and protected as a prime asset.
