Redlands has ranked among the top five data-hungry cities in greater Brisbane, with activities like streaming, gaming and working from home driving the surge in usage.

NBN data shows Redlands customers used an average of 458 gigabytes during March this year, seeing the city rank fifth in greater Brisbane and eighth in Queensland.

Only Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Gold Coast used more gigabytes during the same period.

“It is exciting to see locations from all around greater Brisbane using large amounts of data, including some areas that are eligible for fibre upgrades …,” NBN spokeswoman Jane McNamara said.

“The national average data usage across the NBN network in 2023 is up to 445 gigabytes in a month, and all the top five areas in Brisbane are above that.

“The need for broadband will reach levels never seen before over the next decade as the internet transforms the world and how we live, so we are growing the network to stay ahead of that demand.

“Queensland also saw its highest growth in data usage in March 2023 compared to the same period last year – data usage grew by more than eight per cent.”

In light of the figures, Ms McNamara urged customers to ensure their plan was keeping up with their data needs.

“We also encourage customers to check that their modem is still supporting their needs as technology advances and demand for speed and data grows,” she said.
