THE goal of the Redlands Cycling and Multisport Club skills day was to demonstrate the skills needed for safe group riding and then introduce criterium racing to cyclists who were grouped according to speed.

Criterium cycling, often called “crits”, is a fast-paced, short-distance race held on a closed circuit, usually in a city or town.

These races are characterised by multiple laps, tight corners and high speeds, demanding technical skills and quick acceleration from the riders.

Criteriums are typically shorter than traditional road races, often lasting between 30 minutes and an hour, with a set number of laps to finish.

The morning was a huge success with lots of fun, camaraderie and team building.

The club hired the new world-class criterium track at Murarrie for this event.

The event involved key members in planning, catering the morning tea as well as delivering the skills from more experienced club cyclists: – racers and commissaire.

Club members are eagerly awaiting the next skills day.
