REDLANDS Neon Boxing Academy continues to prove it’s one of Queensland’s most dynamic boxing communities, racking up national medals, international selections and local recognition in recent weeks.
The club’s Masters athletes made a clean sweep at the Australian Masters Games in Canberra from October 21-24, with all four competitors bringing home medals.
Sarah “The Machine Gun” O’Shea claimed gold with a dominant performance capped by a TKO victory in the final round, while David “Young Dave” Logan also secured gold after outclassing a 50-fight veteran.
Donna “The Don” Weston and Susan Marais both showed grit and determination to claim silver medals in tightly fought contests.
Coach Neon Leon said the results reflected the athletes’ commitment and the club’s inclusive, high-performance environment.
While the Masters team was making waves in Canberra, Gene “The Machine” Keremete was boarding a plane to Finland to represent Australia at the prestigious Tammer Tournament in Tampere from October 31 to November 3.
The event has hosted boxing legends including Mike Tyson and Óscar De La Hoya and remains one of Europe’s most respected amateur tournaments.
It’s already been a huge year for Keremete, who’s represented Australia in Kazakhstan and Spain, and his latest selection marks another major step in his boxing career.
Closer to home, both Keremete and Coach Leon have been named finalists in the 2025 Redlands Coast Sports Awards – Gene for Sportsman of the Year, and Leon for Coach of the Year.
Adding to the excitement, Kipa “Tha Ripa” Keremete is set to represent Australia in New Zealand from November 7-9, continuing the club’s strong international presence.
