We asked our local, state and federal MPs to name their top three infrastructure priorities in the Redlands and the Bayside – this is what they said.

Henry Pike

Federal Member for Bowman

  1. Capalaba Metro extension: The Metro extension from Coorparoo to Capalaba will reduce travel times and open exciting opportunities for the Redlands area. It could transform Capalaba into a commercial, dining, and cultural hub, connecting the region more directly to Brisbane. With the Olympics as a backdrop, this could eventually lead to an express link to Victoria Point and Redland Bay, shaping the city’s future.
  1. Mobile infrastructure: Since being elected, I’ve heard a lot of frustration from locals about poor mobile reception. This is unacceptable in 2025. I’ve worked closely with service providers on tower upgrades, but more needs to be done. Redlanders, including those working from home or running businesses, deserve reliable phone reception. We need more federal investment to ensure everyone can access the phone service they need, especially with the transition to 5G.
  1. Redland Hospital investment: Redland Hospital urgently needs more federal investment to complete its Stage 2 upgrades, which include a clinical ward and an intensive care unit. The previous government committed $30 million for Stage 1, but the future of Stage 2 is uncertain. This investment is crucial to ensure the hospital meets the growing healthcare needs of the community and remains a state-of-the-art facility. Continued federal funding is essential for safeguarding the health future of Redlands.

Ross Vasta

Federal Member for Bonner

  1. Fixing the Lindum Rail Crossing: Having secured $85 million to fix Lindum Crossing, I look forward to seeing work continue to fix this hazardous intersection. It is a dangerous intersection, particularly considering the many school students and parents who frequent the notorious level crossing.
  1. Connecting the Port of Brisbane to Inland Rail: Currently, over 97 per cent of freight leaves the Port of Brisbane by truck, causing increased road degradation, traffic congestion, as well as noise and air pollution for Brisbane locals. While truckies are vital to our economy, our city is becoming increasingly landlocked. This is only going to cause more congestion, increase freight costs with time lost, and put greater pressure on businesses and supply chains. Connecting the Port of Brisbane to Inland Rail will take trucks off roads, making it safer for families, while protecting our local environment and accommodating the future growth of Brisbane.
  1. Extension of Kianawah Road: I would like to see Kianawah Road connected to Kianawah Road South, to relieve traffic congestion, increase connectivity, and improve road safety. The current traffic network is not suitable to carry high traffic volumes, putting significant pressure on local roads and increasing travel time for our community.

Rebecca Young

State Member for Redlands

  1.  I am committed to delivering the 50 per cent barge subsidy on vehicle barge travel and free membership to the Bay Island car share, and we will also keep the 50-cent ferry fare.
  1. I am committed to delivering the long-awaited multistorey carpark at Weinam Creek for Bay Island residents; however, I am keen to rectify the reckless planning from the previous Labor Government on this project.
  1. I also promised to get the Cleveland-Redland Bay Road project back on track, and I have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make that happen.

Amanda Stoker

State Member for Oodgeroo

  1. Redland Hospital:  We’ve got a great little country hospital that’s being asked to meet the needs of a growing city.  It needs the investment in facilities and better processes needed to ensure locals can count on access to health services when they need them.
  1. Connectivity for North Stradbroke Island:  Residents and businesses on North Stradbroke Island struggle with poor connectivity infrastructure of all kinds, from transport to communications, and I’m fighting for the investment needed to unlock the potential of the island for residents and businesses who depend on it being an attractive experience for tourists.
  1. Safety infrastructure:  Local CCTV and investment in the tools for our police to do the difficult job of keeping us safe from everything from serious crime to hooning.

Russell Field

State Member for Capalaba

  1. Tingalpa Creek Bridge duplication: This is a major bottleneck to get in and out of the northern end of the electorate. It’s important that we remove the bottleneck on the Tingalpa Creek Bridge and I’m proud to have a $500,000 business case committed as part of my election and I’m advocating for this to get underway soon.
  1. Leslie Harrison Dam: Leslie Harrison Dam is a critical asset for Capalaba and the Redlands Coast community. It’s an important project to advocate for, that will project legacy benefits for everyone in the region. I’ve got $500,000 on the table to investigate the re-establishment of the dam gates which will unlock opportunities for the recreational use of the dam.
  1. Safety Infrastructure: It’s no secret that our community needs to feel safer in their homes and when out in their community. With investments in safety infrastructure, we can assist our local police with the tools to keep us safe in our community.

Joan Pease

State Member for Lytton

  1. Health: Improving local health services is my top priority. The State Government must uplift local health services. A business case to expand health services, such as dialysis and x-ray facilities, was earmarked at the Wynnum Manly Community Health Centre (Gundu Pa) last year. The Crisafulli Government is yet to make any local health commitments to uplift services. It’s unreasonable to expect a growing (and elderly) population to travel to Princess Alexandra Hospital or Redlands Hospital for basic health services.
  1. Transport: Traffic flow in and out of the Bayside is going to get worse. We need to act now. The Brisbane City Council is yet to undertake the Lindum Road Level Crossing Upgrade Project, in conjunction with Federal Government funding. This needs to happen ASAP, especially due to an expected increase of traffic that will come in via the Port of Brisbane Motorway.
  1. The completion of both Park & Ride at Lindum Station to compliment the works undertaken by Queensland Rail for the fully accessible station is a priority. State Government need to deliver the Manly Harbour Master Plan and undertake consultation with community to deliver a plan that meets community expectations. The completion of the Pritchard Street section of the Moreton Bay Cycleway and deliver the business case for the Moreton Bay Cycle Way from Lytton Road to South Street, Lytton.

Mick De Brenni

State Member for Springwood

Blackspot funding for Mount Cotton Road: Our community wants blackspot funding for key intersections on Mount Cotton Road, because these locations aren’t just an accident waiting to happen, they’re an accident already happening with shocking regularity.

Extend Metro to Capalaba: Extending Metro to Capalaba is something that every level of government should be able to agree on, and that’s what ordinary Aussies want – a government that’s focussed on them.

Koala Coast EcoTourism Trail: The project means a big injection of tourism dollars for the Redlands, plus excellent health and lifestyle outcomes for locals, making it a priority for federal election candidates to get their heads around.

Cr Wendy Boglary

Redland City Council Division 1: Wellington Point/Ormiston

  1. I have stated for a decade I have concerns regarding the ageing infrastructure within our city. Nothing imposes a greater risk or is more vital for the health and safety of Redlands than clean drinking water and sufficient sewerage networks. My main infrastructure concern is a city-wide concern and that is the state of the ageing City Water and Sewerage network infrastructure.
  1. I also would like to see improvements to and reduced pressure on our road network.  The Northern Greenway project which is designated for future cycle/pedestrian connectivity is a major project that will assist and relieve road congestion by providing safe travel connection from Ricketts Road to Cleveland while also improving mental and physical health.
  1. For economic development and again physical and mental wellbeing I would like to the Wellington Point jetty and boat ramp facilities upgraded for safety, increase useability, and to further promote and enhance our Redlands as a destination for tourism.

Cr Peter Mitchell

Redland City Council Division 2: Cleveland/North Stradbroke Island

  1. Infrastructure delivery transformed by Redland City Infrastructure “City Deal”
I recently met with all State and Federal MPs pitching my expectation of their active support for a “Redlands Infrastructure City Deal”. The Federal, State and Local Government to identify and jointly fund agreed strategic core infrastructure over the long-term. Intergovernmental structural funding and delivery reform would transform Redlands and Australia.
  1. World class multi-modal transportation hubs at Cleveland Station, Toondah Harbour and Dunwich NSI integrated into the state network
I suggest a $300 million investment is needed from three levels of government to catalyse the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of Cleveland and NSI and unlock many times this return in industry, commercial and tourism investment.
  1. World class digital connectivity infrastructure for Redlands mainland and bay islands.
This is essential economic and social infrastructure to run households, hospitals, industrial precincts, education facilities, small business and all government services.  During natural disasters this connection literally saves lives co-ordinating responders. This is true on our remote Islands and isolated communities.

Cr Paul Golle

Redland City Council Division 3: Cleveland South/Thornlands, Victoria Point West

  1. Cleveland-Redland Bay Road upgrade
The upgrade of Cleveland-Redland Bay Road remains a critical infrastructure priority for Division 3. Successive state governments have promised this project for years, yet progress has been slow. As a key arterial road managed by TMR, essential improvements are needed, including upgraded lighting, footpaths, and culverts, to enhance safety, accessibility, and flood resilience for residents and commuters.
  1. Community safety CCTV network
I would like to see the State and Federal Governments partner with Redland City Council and Queensland Police to establish a comprehensive CCTV network across Division 3. A properly integrated system would enhance community safety, assist law enforcement, and provide greater security for residents and businesses.
  1. Investment in play spaces
Investment in high-quality play spaces is essential for fostering healthy, active communities in Division 3. I support upgrading existing parks and developing new, inclusive play areas that cater to all ages and abilities. Improved facilities, including shaded areas, modern equipment, and accessible pathways, will provide safe and engaging spaces for families to enjoy.

Cr Lance Hewlett

Redland City Council Division 4: Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island

  1. The complete upgrade of the well-used pathway on Colburn Avenue in front of the Ern and Elma Dowling Sports Ground and the Sharks Club, which is subject to flooding after heavy rain.
  1. To activate the Orana Esplanade Foreshore with shelter, barbecue, and associated infrastructure. There are currently none of these faculties in place for locals or visitors.
  1. To upgrade the Coochiemudlo Island Esplanade Road and car park which is subject to continual potholing and flooding.

Cr Shane Rendalls

Redland City Council Division 5: Redland Bay | Southern Moreton Bay Islands

  • Complete green sealing of all SMBI roads, $8m x 5 years.
  • Eliminate mobile black spots.
  • Reinstate region status of SMBI.

Cr Julie Talty

Redland City Council Division 6: Mt Cotton/Redland Bay

  1. New boat ramp project: We are committed to advancing the development of the new boat ramp, ensuring it remains on schedule for completion in 2026 with the support and collaboration of the State Government.
  1. Main roads upgrades: Securing vital upgrades to major roads, with a particular focus on the Mount Cotton Road/Valley Way intersection, to improve traffic flow, safety, and accessibility for the local community.
  1. Sporting and community facilities: There is a pressing need for additional sporting and community facilities. Unfortunately, these projects are being hindered or scaled back due to excessive environmental regulations. While these regulations are important, they often fail to deliver meaningful improvements for local wildlife, while limiting the potential benefits these facilities could bring to the community.

Cr Rowanne McKenzie

Redland City Council Division 7: Alexandra Hills, Capalaba, Cleveland and Thornlands

  1. Stage 2 and 3 of Wellington St upgrade:  Although this road sits in Division 7 and Division 2, this is a major thoroughfare that every resident of the city has to travel on at some point to visit Redland Hospital.  With Stage 1 now complete we are looking to the Federal Government for funding support to continue this transport corridor.
  1. Redlands Coast Sport and Recreation Precinct: We have a 75HA shortfall of sporting land for our community.  Delivering this precinct will help meet the current and future sport and recreation needs of our community while freeing up the Cleveland Showgrounds to host events.
  1. Enabling infrastructure for Southern Thornlands: 900HA of greenfield land was included in the urban footprint by the former State Government however requires more than $1B in enabling infrastructure to activate it for development.  Even with developer contributions there is a significant shortfall in the funding required to connect sewage and water, upgrade roads and provide community facilities in this area.

Cr Tracey Huges

Redland City Council Division 8: Birkdale South | Alexandra Hills North | Ormiston | Wellington Point

  1. John Fredrick Park – Warriors Junior Rugby League Club:
  • Urgent lighting upgrade for Field 2, as current lighting is outdated, no longer repairable, and dependent on generators.
  • Fencing for Field 1 to enhance safety, security, and financial sustainability for the club, especially with ongoing anti-social behaviour concerns.
  1. Youth Precinct – Capalaba Skate Park:
  • Request to bring forward the planned 2028/9 upgrade to the Skate Park, which is currently deemed unfit for purpose, to ensure a safe and modern space for the youth in the community.
  1. Capalaba Football Club – Bulldogs:
  • Renovation of the clubhouse, including much-needed repairs and improved female facilities, to support the growth of the club and its community outreach programs.

Cr Paul Bishop

Redland City Council Division 10: Birkdale/Thorneside

  1. Safer Quarry Road pedestrian crossing: At the Birkdale/Quarry Road roundabout/intersection. These are local/state roads, yet federal funds would also assist in advancing this vital project. Many people of all ages and abilities cross between school, shops, medical precinct by train and bus.
  1. Upgrade to Rickertt/Quarry Road and bridge: To reduce congestion and impacts caused by flash flooding. This thoroughfare needs dual lanes to manage increased traffic and population. In heavy rains and tidal surge, this corridor can be unsafe or closed for periods, causing impacts and delays.
  1. Support for Thorneside sport clubs (Football, netball, cricket, tennis and other users). The William Taylor Memorial Sports Ground on Mooroondu Road needs infrastructure upgrades to support club members, visitors and residents. A revised Draft Master Plan seeks to manage drainage, parking, public facility upgrades and renewals for multi-sport benefits, including recreational elements.

Cr Alex Givney

Wynnum Manly Ward

1. Wynnum Centre Suburban Renewal Plan: This exciting initiative allows us to work with the community as we shape Wynnum’s CBD, providing more opportunities for homes to be built, better transport connectivity and further support to our businesses. The focus area for the precinct will span from Berrima Street to Clara Street and along Tingal Road and Bay Terrace, encompassing Wynnum Central Station and the popular Bride Street, Charlotte Street, Florence Street and Edith Street. We will also use this plan as an opportunity to evaluate parking, public spaces, footpaths and more to make our CBD an even better place to live, work and relax. Consultation on the Wynnum Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan will open this year.

2. Greene Park Precinct: Planning works are underway to deliver a fantastic new playground at Greene Park. The new playground will incorporate a trawler theme to recognise our fishing history of Wynnum creek and will feature swings, slides and climbing structures. This is part of a wider revitalisation by Council and private owners of the park precinct and the surrounding boating infrastructure. We look forward to seeing a private development application for the old fish market site lodged soon and can’t wait to make this an even better place to play.

3. Wynnum, Lota Manly Foreshore Masterplan: Community consultation is now open for a new masterplan along the Wynnum, Lota and Manly foreshores. Our foreshore is part of our identity, and we are excited to hear from the community about how we can regenerate Brisbane’s historic waterfront and enhance the Bayside’s incredible lifestyle offerings. I’m particularly passionate about having spaces for community events and I look forward to seeing how we can reimagine the foreshore as a place people can gather and celebrate the many things that make living in the bayside so great.

Cr Lisa Atwood

Doboy Ward

1. Lindum Rail Crossing: We are working with the Queensland and Federal governments to deliver this important safety upgrade for residents travelling to and through the Bayside. While the rail network belongs to the State Government, we understand the dangerous nature of this crossing and understand the importance that an upgrade would have to those who use this crossing every day. This program includes multiple stages, and we’ve already received great feedback from the community on our preliminary designs. We are currently working with the State and Federal governments to obtain the funding needed to progress the project and we remain committed to delivering this important upgrade for residents.

2. Wynnum Road Clearway Review: Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner recently announced a review of Brisbane’s clearways as a simple and cost-effective way to keep traffic moving across the suburbs. Clearways can also improve connectivity for cyclists and with the recent opening of the amazing Brisbane International Cycle Park at the Murarrie Recreation Reserve, we want to make sure everyone who uses our roads can be catered for. Wynnum Road is one of the major corridors to be considered in the coming years and I am hopeful this review will help make it easier for everyone to get around our suburbs.

3. Wynnum Road and Hemmant-Tingalpa Road intersection upgrade: This intersection is a known crash zone and in partnership with the Federal government, we are committed to making this corridor safer for everyone. Early works are now underway, with further works including upgrading storm water infrastructure to begin in March. Once complete, the intersection will include new traffic lights, traffic island, dedicated U-turn lanes and a new footpath so it will be easier and safer to navigate this corridor.
