BASEBALL season has begun in Redland City. Despite a shaky start with some heavy rains, this year in baseball is shaping up to be a competitive one.

Redlands Rays senior division 1 have had a successful run thus far, scoring their latest victory last Friday over Pine Hills Lightning, winning 6-5.

The Rays are set to lock horns with Carina Redsox over the weekend in Redlands’ home ground in Sheldon.

“Redlands Rays Baseball Club are off to a great start with most games being able to be played despite the rain. 12 junior teams, plus T-ball and 12 senior teams; it’s set to be a busy and exciting season for all involved” Redland Rays media and marketing coordinator Ali Stephens said.

The Rays’ junior teams have had particular success in the early season, with some players already selected for state squads.

With Queensland School Championship selections just around the corner, Redlands Rays’ youngsters are eager to look the part.

The local baseball club’s women divisions have a record-breaking three teams entering into the competition this year.

“We definitely had a great weekend offensively,” head coach Rhys Niit said.

“Our three American imports have now arrived to help bolster our squad.

And we have a good mix of older veteran players with some young up and coming talent.

I’m excited to see what this team can achieve this year with the talent and depth we have,” he said.

Baseball Queensland recently hosted 2024’s Annual Hall of Fame and Awards Dinner, with more than 150 members of the baseball community attending.

Baseball Queensland reported that awards from several categories including Under 16’s, Women’s Development, Queensland State and Distinguished Service were presented on the night.
