REDLAND Bayside News has been recognised among Queensland’s best community newspapers, taking out Runner-Up for Best Free Newspaper at the 2025 Queensland Country Press Association (QCPA) Media Excellence Awards.

The awards, which celebrate excellence in regional and rural journalism, were held at a dinner at Royal on the Park in Brisbane.

Judges praised Redland Bayside News for its bold front-page design and strong news coverage.

“The Redland Bayside News is a newspaper that knows how to grab the audience’s attention with striking front page designs and breaking news stories that are clearly labelled with eye-catching graphics,” the judges said.

“A worthy top three award winner.”

The judging panel said newspapers that stood out this year were those embracing innovation and original journalism.

“The opportunity to judge the best free newspaper provided a valuable insight into the diverse and vibrant sources of local news across Queensland,” the panel noted.

“Country Press Australia members can learn from some of the novel additions that some mastheads are implementing, such as image-focused death tributes, free fridge calendars and flip editions.

“Newspapers that adopted original, novel pieces of journalism stood out, and quality photography is still a recognised mainstay.”

Publisher David Johnston said the accolade was a proud moment for the entire newsroom.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated team and the strong connection we have with our community,” he said.

“We’re passionate about telling local stories that matter, and it’s an honour to be acknowledged among Queensland’s best.”

He also thanked the paper’s readers and advertisers for their ongoing support.

“We couldn’t do what we do without our loyal readers and local businesses,” he said.

“Their support allows us to keep delivering quality local news every week.”

The QCPA Media Excellence Awards showcase the best in country journalism across Queensland.
