HEALTHCARE in the Redlands will receive a significant boost if a Labor state government is re-elected after Premier Steven Miles announced a $1.6 billion commitment to stage 2 of the Redland Hospital expansion.

The Premier and Health Minister Shannon Fentiman joined Member for Redlands Kim Richards, Member for Capalaba Don Brown, and Labor candidate for Oodgeroo Irene Henley at the hospital to make the announcement last week.

The expansion is set to include an additional 181 beds, 48 treatment places in a new emergency department and two extra operating theatres, which will take total capacity at the Redlands Hospital to 376 beds, 23 acute mental health beds, 78 emergency department treatment places and six operating theatres.

“We know that in the next 10 years, more than 185,000 people will call this beautiful part of Queensland home, so we must make sure the local facilities and services keep up,” Mr Miles said.

“If I am elected in October, we will commence Stage 2 of the Redland Hospital expansion as fast as we can, delivering more beds, more services and more opportunities for the Redlands.”

A new clinical services building will be built to accommodate stage 2, with the existing hospital also set for targeted refurbishments under the project.

The project is tipped to create more than 3000 construction jobs and builds on Labor’s record of delivering stage 1 of the Redlands Hospital expansion and an extra 1000 covered parking spaces.

“Right now we are working with the Albanese Government to deliver a $78 million upgrade, including integrating a two-storey building with the existing hospital and significantly boost capacity by adding 37 overnight beds,” Ms Richards said.

“This stage 2 expansion represents a fantastic opportunity for dedicated healthcare professionals, particularly those passionate about intensive and critical care, offering jobs and professional growth right here in the Redlands.”

“This commitment builds on our existing investments like the $25 million Lagoon Ward, the recently opened Redlands Satellite Hospital, and the $150 million dedicated to the new Mental Health Facility,” added Mr Brown.

“These strategic investments showcase our unwavering commitment to building a robust and responsive healthcare system, ensuring the Redlands Coast continues to receive high-quality healthcare at the forefront.”
