Redlands residents can have their say on an important parliamentary inquiry now underway into the Local
Government (Empowering Councils) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025.

Member for Redlands Rebecca Young MP said the Bill aimed to strengthen local government, improve
transparency, and ensure councils have the tools they need to serve their communities effectively.

“This legislation is all about empowering councils, improving governance, and cutting unnecessary red
tape so local governments can get on with delivering for their communities like ours here in the
Redlands,” Mrs Young said.

“The Bill proposes a range of reforms – from giving councils more control over senior appointments, to
reinforcing the role of Mayors, improving conflict-of-interest rules, supporting Indigenous local
governments, and strengthening safeguards around local government elections.”

Mrs Young said Redlanders now have an opportunity to provide submissions and have their say.

“I strongly encourage our community, local organisations, and anyone with an interest in good local
government to make a submission. This is your chance to help shape the future of how councils operate
across Queensland.”

The Parliamentary Committee is now calling for submissions, which close at 12pm on Tuesday, 16
December 2025.

Community members can view the Bill, explanatory notes and introductory speech on the committee’s
webpage.

upload your submission.

Mrs Young said every submission counts.

“Whether you’re a resident, business owner, community leader or stakeholder – your feedback helps
ensure this legislation reflects what communities like Redlands need from their councils.

“I encourage everyone to take a few minutes and have their say.”
