REDLANDS United’s preparations for the 2026 Football Queensland Premier League season gathered momentum on the weekend with a strong pre-season showing away from home against Mitchelton FC.
In the first hit-out of the campaign for most of the squad, the Red Devils produced an impressive all-round performance to claim a 5–2 victory, with goals to Harry Christie, Andy Thompson, Jayden Balarezo, Michael Bradley and Freddie Cruise.
While the scoreline was eye-catching, it was the fluency of the side’s general play and their attacking cohesion that stood out to onlookers, particularly for a first outing.
Guided by head coach Graham Fyfe, Redlands settled quickly into the contest and grew in confidence as the match progressed, linking well through midfield and creating consistent chances in the final third.
The integration of Under 23 players was another positive, with the younger brigade stepping up seamlessly and adding energy and quality when introduced.
After the match, Fyfe was delighted with what he saw from his squad.
“I’m very, very pleased,” he said.
“Some moments, especially attacking wise was unbelievable to watch, especially for the first game of the season.
“The boys are getting to know each other, you could see it develop as the game went on, which was cool.
“And one of the most pleasing things was getting five or six on the Under 23’s players, not just coming to play, but play well.
“So yeah, we’re building really well, I’m really chuffed.”
Captain Noah Hitchcock shared his coach’s optimism, while acknowledging there is still work to be done ahead of the new season.
“It was a good first hit out for us,” he said.
“It was great to see the 23’s coming in as well, they made an impact when they came on in the second half.
“We still feel there are things to work on, but it was a really good effort from the lads today.”
Redlands United’s pre-season campaign continues this Saturday with a sterner test at home against newly promoted NPL side and familiar rivals Rochedale Rovers at Cleveland’s Amcal Arena.
The Under 23s will open proceedings at 4pm, followed by the senior fixture kicking off at 6pm.
