NDIS Commission Launches Campaign on Mealtime Management
SHARE

THE NDIS Commission has begun a campaign on mealtime management practices of registered and unregistered providers.

It has have already contacted some providers to identify participants that receive mealtime supports, with the campaign extending into other locations in the coming weeks.

The data collection survey asks providers for the details of participants who receive mealtime supports and where they live.

It may be that not all providers will be surveyed. Some information about mealtime services can be determined through existing data.

In the second stage of the campaign, Commission representatives will visit sites to examine practices. The findings will be shared in the third part of the campaign to support best practice by all providers.

NDS is speaking with the NDIS Commission about the timelines for requests like these.

Mealtime management and related services, like dysphagia management and enteral feeding, are high-risk support services. It’s important to have well-researched resources.

For providers, there are already some good online resources.

In 2022, Professor Bronwyn Hemsley and at the University of Technology Sydney led a collaborative project to develop the website Enjoy Safe Meals – co-creating safe and enjoyable meals for people with dysphagia.

The NDIS Commission also has a worker training module.
