NAIDOC Week on the Redlands Coast will officially kick-off on Sunday (July 6) with the Redlands Coast NAIDOC Cultural Celebration at Raby Bay Harbour Park, Cleveland.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the 2025 National NAIDOC Week theme was The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy, and it would run from July 6 to 13.

The cultural celebration on July 6 is a free community event and will showcase traditional and contemporary Quandamooka music and dancing.

“It is an opportunity for everyone to join in the celebration of First Nations culture and history,” Mayor Mitchell said.

“There are some wonderful activities planned, so please come along, enjoy the day and join in the celebration.”

As traditional custodians of much of Redlands Coast, the Quandamooka people have lived on the lands and seas surrounding North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) for at least 21,000 years.

Arts, Culture and Heritage Portfolio Councillor Paul Bishop said this year’s NAIDOC Week theme was about celebrating our shared journey towards “the glad tomorrow”, as described by Quandamooka poet Oodgeroo Noonuccal/Kath Walker in her poem Song of Hope.

“It is about creating a better future together – empowered by the strength of our young leaders, guided by the vision of our communities and elders, acknowledging the legacy of our ancestors,” Cr Bishop said.
