Federal Member for Bonner Kara Cook has welcomed students, families and educators back to the classroom as the 2026 school year begins, while also encouraging young people to put their hand up for a new local leadership opportunity.
In a message to the community, Ms Cook thanked teachers, principals and school support staff across Bonner for their ongoing dedication, saying their work played a vital role in shaping the region’s future.
“A new school year brings fresh opportunities, new goals and plenty of excitement,” she said.
“I want to sincerely thank our incredible teachers and school staff for the care they show our young people every single day.”
With students returning to school, Ms Cook also announced applications were now open for her 2026 Bonner Future Leaders Advisory Group (BFLAG), aimed at giving young people a direct voice in local issues.
The advisory group is open to young people aged 16 to 23 who live in the electorate of Bonner and are interested in community issues, leadership and advocacy.
Participants will have the opportunity to share their perspectives directly with the local MP, take part in discussions on issues that matter to young people, hear from guest speakers and work alongside peers and community leaders.
Ms Cook said all members of the group would receive a certificate recognising their contribution, which could be used to strengthen resumes, job applications and university applications.
“I’m excited to work alongside young people from across Bonner and ensure their voices are part of the decisions that shape our community,” she said.
Applications for the 2026 Bonner Future Leaders Advisory Group are now open, with more information available through Ms Cook’s office and online channels.
