FORMER Moreton Bay College student Miela Sowah has earned a spot on the women’s Gangurrus team for the highly anticipated 2025 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup, following her impressive performance at the 2023 FIBA 3×3 Champions Cup.

The announcement was made earlier this week, marking a significant milestone in Sowah’s already decorated basketball career.

A standout player in both traditional and 3×3 formats, Sowah will bring her sharp shooting and versatile game to the international 3×3 scene.

The Brisbane-born star’s recent success at the Champions Cup, where she helped the Gangurrus secure a bronze medal and earned an all-tournament team selection, has made her one of the key players to watch at next month’s Asia Cup.

Sowah’s path to the 3×3 national team has been nothing short of remarkable.

After a stellar career at Duke University in the US, she returned to Australia and quickly made her mark in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) with the Melbourne Boomers and Perth Lynx.

Her leadership and scoring ability earned her recognition at the domestic level, and her transition to 3×3 has been seamless, with her elite shooting range and competitive drive making her a vital asset for the Gangurrus.

The 2025 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup will see teams from across the continent compete for top honours, and Australia’s Gangurrus will be looking to build on their momentum from recent tournaments.

Led by Sowah, the team is poised to make a strong push for the gold medal.

Australia has consistently been a strong contender in 3×3 basketball, and with players like Sowah, who thrives in high-pressure environments, they are certainly a team to watch.

Fans are already looking forward to seeing how the Gangurrus will perform on the international stage.

As the countdown to the 2025 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup continues, all eyes will be on Sowah and her teammates as they aim to bring home more trophies for Australia.
