FOR decades, Melin Vietnamese and Chinese Restaurant has been a cherished part of the Capalaba community, serving nutritious and delicious meals that bring people together.

Melin’s history spans over 50 years, and its loyal customers have been returning for decades, drawn by the restaurant’s reputation for quality food and a friendly, wholesome atmosphere. However, the journey hasn’t been without challenges.

When the restaurant was devastated by fire in 2021 and forced to close temporarily, it left a gaping hole in the tapestry of the Capalaba community and its dining options. Urged by the community to reopen, the

Tran family embarked on a mission to rebuild.

The reopening later that year marked a new chapter for the restaurant. With overwhelming support from the local community, the restaurant expanded into a larger space, upgraded its kitchen, and introduced exciting new menu options. The return was a triumph, with old and new customers alike eager to enjoy the fresh, flavourful dishes once again.

In 2024, the family-owned establishment proudly celebrated its 20th anniversary under the ownership of Monica and Kim Tran and their son Richard, who took over the business in 2004. Last year also saw the business win the award for best small food and hospitality business at the Redlands Business Excellence Awards, a proud feat for the Tran family.

Melin’s commitment to quality is evident in every aspect of their food preparation. The team sources fresh, high-quality ingredients from our local suppliers and hand-cut vegetables. Their approach to cooking emphasises health and nutrition, avoiding added MSG and excess oil. All sauces and entrees are made in-house, ensuring an authentic dining experience.

Beyond its food, Melin has built a strong sense of community. The restaurant’s friendly service and affordable menu make it a welcoming space for families and friends to gather. The Chinese New Year celebration on Wednesday, January 29, offers an opportunity to share food and tradition with loved ones.

Monica, Kim, and Richard have created more than just a restaurant; they’ve cultivated a community hub built on family tradition. Their dedication to quality and care has made Melin Vietnamese and Chinese Restaurant a beloved fixture in Capalaba, and their legacy continues to grow, one delicious meal at a time.
