JIMMY Barnes delivered a thunderous celebration of Australian rock at Sirromet on Saturday night, marking the 40th anniversary of his landmark album For The Working Class Man before a 13,000 crowd at Mount Cotton.
Barnes performed the album in full, opening with I’d Die To Be With You Tonight and powering through fan favourites including Working Class Man, No Second Prize and Paradise.
He followed the exhaustive run-through with a selection of classics from his extensive catalogue, proving he remains one of the country’s most enduring and energetic performers.
The anniversary event also featured a heavyweight supporting lineup.
Ian Moss thrilled fans with signature guitarwork and Cold Chisel staples, while Icehouse delivered a polished set packed with their iconic anthems.
John Rooney warmed up the crowd earlier in the evening, and Kate Ceberano impressed with her unmistakable vocals and stage presence.
Dry weather, a receptive crowd and a bill stacked with some of Australia’s most recognisable names combined for a standout night.
For longtime fans, it was a rare opportunity to see a seminal Australian album played from start to finish.
For Barnes, it was a celebration of a career that continues to resonate strongly, four decades on.
