AFTER a few days of intense weather, it was great to get out on the park on Saturday afternoon for Round 8 of the FQPL competition as the Red Devils travelled to Ipswich to take on Ipswich FC.
Redlands seemed to have control for most of the half but put themselves under pressure and just could not convert their chances into goals.
As the referee signalled for half-time, the scoreline read Ipswich 0 Redlands 0.
The second half started with both sides again trying to push forward at every opportunity and being repelled by their opponent’s defence.
Redlands were finally on the scoreboard after 67 minutes when, after some great team build-up, and a great pass by Eamonn Ross across the face of goal, Deegan Brook slotted in to give the Red Devils the lead.
Ipswich, however, were not to be outdone and bounced back immediately, catching Redlands on the break making it 1-1.
The game continued to go from end to end as both sides pushed for the winning goal.
It almost came for Redlands after two minutes of time added on, when Isaac Garcia was put in on goal after some great build-up play down the left side, only for his angled shot on the advancing keeper to find the side of the net.
Full-time was called a few minutes later as the scoreline remained 1-1.
After the game, Redlands FQPL Head Coach Garrett McDuling said: “Both teams went into the game full of confidence after both having good wins in the final Kappa Pro Series game prior to Easter.
“We knew that Ipswich would be difficult to break down and would rely on a direct style of football to create their chances.”
McDuling said Ipswich posed a major threat from set pieces, and their speedy forward line.
“The team has four days to regroup for the Kappa Qld Cup against a quality Strikers team on Wednesday night and then Sunday afternoon’s game against an in-form Caboolture…we’ll be ready for the challenge.”
