THE INDUSTRY School has unveiled plans to build a new state-of-the-art school in Cleveland’s town centre as it continues to build a bright future for the area’s young talent.
The announcement was made at its “turning the first sod” celebration to signify the start of construction, and similarly the first step in securing itself within the community.
The Industry School CEO Lee Smith said: “We want put down permanent roots and show the community that we are here to stay and that we can help future generations.”
For the past eight years, the trade school has leased a building locally, and worked with the Redland City Council to put thousands of Years 10-12 students through to achieve their QCE, as well as an extensive variety of apprenticeships and trades.
“This is going to be a state-of-the-art building, with state-of-the-art facilities, learning spaces, and spaces within the school where local industry will come in and engage with our young people,” Mr Smith said. “It’s really about bringing community and bringing industry into the school to contribute to students’ education.”
According to existing Redlands Industry School principal Michael Callanan, construction is estimated for completion as early as 2026 and will cater for up to 300 young people on premises, not including those on placements or at work experience.
Local councillor Peter Mitchell, who was in attendance, said it was a “wise and welcome investment” that strengthened the city’s economy and improved liveability for local families.
