TWO homes have been destroyed after an early morning fire on Brisbane’s Bayside.
Emergency services were called to Pine Street at Wynnum about 2am Monday after reports a home was fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to a second property.
All occupants managed to escape without injury, although there were initial concerns a family dog may have been trapped inside the burning home.
Amid the devastation, the family received a heartwarming surprise when they were reunited with the dog they had feared lost in the blaze.
Residents from nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution.
Lytton MP Joan Pease described the incident as devastating.
“Terrible news overnight with a home on Pine St in Wynnum being engulfed by flames and a neighbouring property badly damaged,” Ms Pease said.
“At least 11 fire crews battled the blaze that started at 2am. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.”
Councillor Alex Givney expressed his condolences to the families affected and praised the emergency crews for their efforts.
“My sincere condolences are with the two families in Pine Street who lost their homes in the early hours of this morning. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult this time must be for you,” Cr Givney said.
“I visited the site this morning to drop off some snacks for the police and fire crews who have been working tirelessly, many through the night.
“Thank you for your dedication and professionalism during such a challenging situation.”
Cr Givney also urged the community to respect the privacy of those affected.
“If anyone is able to connect me with the families involved, please reach out,” she said.
“My team and I are very keen to assist in any way we can.
“Out of respect, we would prefer to coordinate any collections or support directly with the families or their close friends.
“I kindly ask community members to please give these teams the space they need to do their jobs and to stay away from the area for now.
“I did not take any photos out of respect for those affected by this devastating event.
“I know our Bayside community is ready to support these families.
“I will share further information if and when the families are open to community support.”
At least 11 fire crews attended the scene, with the blaze brought under control by about 4am.
Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance Service, Urban Utilities and Energex also responded.
A structural collapse occurred at one of the destroyed properties.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
