Capalaba Burger Bar Reopens After Suspected Arson
SHARE

A popular Capalaba eatery has reopened just hours after suffering damage from a suspected arson attack targeting a neighbouring business.

Hashtag Burgers & Waffles, located at 2 Finucane Rd, was forced to close on Saturday morning after fire and broken glass caused minor damage to the store.

The blaze is believed to have been linked to an ongoing series of arson attempts against the adjoining tobacconist.

In a social media post, the business said it was waiting for police to complete their investigation before beginning a clean-up and safety assessment.

“We have suffered some fire damage and plenty of broken glass,” the post read.

“Rest assured all mess and safety hazards to staff, patrons and product will be fully assessed and rectified before we put anyone else at risk.”

Despite the setback, the restaurant’s “absolutely amazing team” volunteered their time to clean and repair the store, allowing it to reopen by 5pm the same day.

“All food products, utensils, tables and chairs, and surfaces have been cleaned and sanitised,” the owners said.

“We couldn’t have done this without our stellar team, who are currently being treated to some sushi on us.”

Queensland Police said the two businesses were set on fire about 3am Saturday, and the incident is being investigated as a targeted attack.

Police investigations into the suspected firebombing next door are continuing.

Anyone who has information regarding this incident is urged to contact Queensland Police.
