THREE guitarists. Three unique styles. One spectacular show.

The Acoustic Guitar Spectacular is set to return to the Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) at 7pm on August 1, promising a night of rhythm, melody and musical magic.

Hosted by award-winning Brisbane fingerstyle guitarist Michael Fix, the show features a trio of talented performers delivering a blend of genres and techniques designed to delight guitar enthusiasts and general music lovers alike.

“People come to be entertained and to have a good experience. I want to supply that,” Fix said.

“This is not a classical recital – not at all.

“I’ve chosen guests who are entertainers as much as they are players.”

Joining Fix on stage are Majelen and Tom Coombs, two standout artists with contrasting and complementary approaches.

“Majelen is unique and special,” Fix said.

“She brings a percussive groove and is a nice contrast.”

Coombs, known for his fingerpicking and percussive techniques, impressed Fix with his creative flair and technical prowess.

“His playing is highly sophisticated,” Fix said.

“He doesn’t play the standard way – he’ll re-tune the strings seamlessly while chatting.

“I am bamboozled by the brain strain.”

Fix, who has released numerous albums, toured internationally and won multiple awards, said he was first inspired to pursue fingerstyle guitar at the age of 20 after discovering the works of Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel.

“This style has the potential for playing complete arrangements with the melody, the lyric line and the harmony,” he said.

“The light came on for me and I saw the potential to be a solo performer.”

With a repertoire ranging from pop and classical to jazz and blues, the concert will feature solo performances, as well as duets and trios.

“We will do whatever it takes to feel good and make the audience feel good too,” Fix said.

And while all three performers are technically brilliant, Fix said the real magic lay in the emotional connection that music creates.

“It’s about the heart and soul of music,” he said.

“Music is about emotion, and a memorable show will touch the nerve of a listener.”

The Acoustic Guitar Spectacular has previously played to enthusiastic crowds at RPAC, and Fix said he
was looking forward to returning.

“This lineup promises something special.”
