REDLANDS residents can now train with one of the world’s most respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) organisations, with Gracie Barra officially opening a new academy in Capalaba.

Located at 75 Redland Bay Rd behind Baby Bunting, Gracie Barra Capalaba will offer structured martial arts programs for all ages and experience levels – from beginners to advanced competitors – as well as specialised classes in self-defence, anti-bullying and women’s-only sessions.

The academy is part of Gracie Barra’s global network of more than 900 schools and follows the organisation’s mission of “Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone”.

“We’re not just opening a martial arts school,” said Head Instructor and Academy Director Roan Theron.

“We’re creating a space where people from all walks of life can build confidence, get fit and become part of a values-driven community.”

Classes will begin in July, with complimentary trial sessions offered to new members.

Programs include Kids & Teens BJJ, adult beginner and advanced training, and community-focused initiatives like school partnerships and wellbeing workshops.

The academy aims to become a hub for personal growth and resilience in the Redlands, using the discipline of BJJ to build stronger individuals and a connected local community.

For more information or to book a free trial class, visit the academy or contact the Gracie Barra Capalaba team.
