THE extent of ramping issues at Redland Hospital have been laid bare during an LNP-hosted health forum at Victoria Point.

New health data has revealed a spike in ramping at the hospital, with 63 per cent of all arrivals waiting longer than recommended to receive care during the January-March quarter, up 13 per cent from the previous reporting period.

All category one patients were seen within clinically recommended timeframes but there was a sharp drop in category two – the second most urgent group – with more than a quarter of arrivals waiting on a stretcher for longer than 30 minutes.

Opposition leader David Crisafulli returned to Redlands in May for a health town hall meeting at Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club with Oodgeroo MP Mark Robinson and Redlands LNP candidate Rebecca Young.

The LNP has hosted a series of health forums across the state over the past two years to hear from residents in cities and regional centres about the biggest health issues in their communities, with the last Redlands town hall taking place in November 2021.

The opposition has put forward a four-point action plan it believes will rectify health issues in the public system and is urging the government to implement the strategy, with their proposals including a move to introduce real time data and putting nurses and doctors back in charge.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk launched a healthcare blitz in Redlands on the same day as the LNP’s forum, announcing a $150m investment for a new mental health facility.

But recent government health promises at the hospital have been hit by delays, including the $62 million stage one expansion which was originally promised for delivery in late-2022.

Mr Robinson said residents were tired of being promised more than what the government was delivering.
The health minister’s office was contacted for comment.
