Redlands United have progressed to the next round of the Australia Cup after a 5-4 triumph on the Gold Coast.

The Red Devils played Magic United, who had already earned three big scalps in the competition against high-ranking teams.

In a strange game of football, Redlands opened the scoring after only 15 minutes through Guil Santana.

Magic responded a few minutes later through a penalty and the score stayed level at 1-1 right up to half-time.

Redlands’ Dylan Brent secured a hat-trick with three penalties during a 10-minute period in the second half, giving the Red Devils a 4-1 advantage.

Then in a strange 20-minute period of the game, Magic had a player sent off before proceeding to score three goals of their own – the last one in the fourth minute of time added on – to send the game into extra time.

During the second period, Redlands’ Lee-Nauv Faunt – who had just received a call up to the PNG national team – scored the winner for the Red Devils to send them through to the next round of the cup.

They will now play Lions FC to see who goes through to the National Round of 32. With the game to be played in the next few weeks, the actual date and time of the tie will be known shortly.

Fiction Bar and Restaurant man of the match was awarded to hard-working number 20 and goalkeeper Joel D’Cruz.

Redlands were unable to repeat the dose in their Kappa Pro Series clash at Heath Park on Saturday, with Eastern Suburbs snatching a 91st minute winner.
