REDLAND City Council is seeking expressions of interest from a club to manage and facilitate the use of 12 newly marked pickleball courts at EGW Wood Sportsfield in Wellington Point, as the fast-growing sport continues to gain popularity across the Redlands.
Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the move was in response to increasing demand for pickleball facilities on Redlands Coast.
“Pickleball is experiencing rapid growth due to its accessibility, social focus and low impact nature and the fact it is enjoyable for all ages and skill levels,” Cr Talty said.
“To meet this need, Council recently line-marked 20 courts for pickleball on the existing four netball courts and two tennis courts at EGW Wood Sportsfield.
“The new line marking is a great way to increase usage of an existing facility, supporting the current users of the courts while adding pickleball to the mix.”
Eight of the courts, line-marked on the tennis courts, will be publicly accessible through council’s online booking system.
“The eight courts line-marked on the tennis courts will be publicly accessible through Council’s online booking system,” Cr Talty said.
“Council is seeking expressions of interest from clubs to manage the other 12 courts and is keen to hear proposals from clubs that are inclusive and have progression of pickleball in the Redlands as a core value.”
Allstars Netball Club will remain the primary licence holder of the netball courts and amenities at the sportsfield.
Division 1 Councillor Wendy Boglary said the expression of interest process created an opportunity to support the sport’s growth while ensuring the shared facility continued to meet the needs of the community.
“This is about providing more opportunities for residents to stay active and meet new people while balancing the needs of all user groups of an existing community asset,” Cr Boglary said.
“I was pleased to support this project with funding towards full netball court resurfacing, new line marking to accommodate both netball and pickleball, the installation of new netball posts, nets and padding, and the addition of a water fountain.”
Expressions of interest close on March 24, 2026.
