Redland City Council has set its strategic direction for the next five years, adopting a new corporate plan despite Mayor Jocelyn Mitchell voting against the document.

Council last week adopted Our Future Redland City – Corporate Plan 2026–2031, which will commence on 1 July 2026 and guide the development of council’s annual operational plans, budgets, decision-making and reporting through to 2031.

The council-issued media release following the vote – released a full seven days after the meeting – quoted only Deputy Mayor Julie Talty, who spoke in support of the plan after the Mayor opposed its adoption.

Cr Talty said Our Future Redland City – Corporate Plan 2026–2031 would ensure council’s priorities were delivered in a coordinated and accountable way.

“Our new corporate plan will help Council guide Redland as a thriving city with a naturally wonderful lifestyle, connected communities, and an openness to new opportunities,” Cr Talty said.

“It sets a direction that will help Council deliver high-quality services while planning responsibly for the future.”

The corporate plan outlines five key focus areas for the city over the next five years: effective and efficient council operations, a strong community, a sustainable environment, liveable neighbourhoods and a prosperous local economy.

Cr Talty said the plan aimed to balance service delivery, financial responsibility and long-term planning while retaining the Redlands Coast lifestyle.

The Deputy Mayor said the plan was shaped through extensive community consultation, including workshops, focus groups, surveys and online engagement.

“The feedback was invaluable in helping to shape a plan that reflects our community’s aspirations while ensuring strong governance and accountability,” she said.

“This is a plan for the whole community and sets a clear roadmap for how Council will move forward with confidence, collaboration, and a commitment to our Redlands Coast lifestyle for today and the future.”

The newly adopted corporate plan will underpin council’s policy and budget decisions once it comes into effect in mid-2026.

Our Future Redland City – Corporate Plan 2026–2031 is available on Redland City Council’s website.
