RESIDENTS of Redland Bay and surrounding areas are growing frustrated with ongoing delays to the Cleveland – Redland Bay Road, which has been underway for two years.
The project, designed to ease congestion and improve traffic flow, has yet to be completed, leaving locals frustrated.
Independent Councillor for Division 3, Paul Golle, says the continued delays to the Cleveland – Redland Bay Road upgrade are unacceptable.
“Residents have endured years of disruption with no clear end in sight,” he said.
“The State Government and TMR must take responsibility, provide firm completion dates, and ensure this project is delivered without further excuses.”
State Member for Redlands Rebecca Young has also voiced her concerns, expressing frustration with the series of setbacks that have plagued the project.
“Unfortunately, this upgrade has just been one poor decision after the next which has blown the project time out extensively,” Mrs Young said.
While the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has explained that delays have been exacerbated by Queensland’s unpredictable weather, which has made scheduling and construction more complex, residents remain dissatisfied with the slow pace of work.
A TMR spokesperson reassured the public that construction had made some progress, with northbound traffic recently moved onto the new roadway between Benfer Rd and Magnolia Pde, allowing further work on centre medians and landscaping.
Despite these assurances, Mrs Young has been advocating for better communication.
She has called on TMR to provide regular updates to keep residents informed about expected delays, enabling them to better plan their commutes.
“Redlands commuters deserve a government that works smarter to reduce delays and disruption to their everyday lives, and as their local representative, I have passed that feedback on and been assured mistakes will not be repeated,” she said.
“I have requested regular updates to keep our community informed so they can best prepare for any delays, however
I have also been working with the Transport Minister to ensure the poor planning from the previous Labor Government does not continue when work begins on Stage 2.”
TMR has committed to providing updates as the project advances.
