It’s not too early – or late – to think about where you’ll spend Christmas. This December or next.

There might still be some better-late-than-never offers for overseas flights or local cruises if you haven’t fixed on your festive fare for this year.

You can always make time for VFR – that’s Visiting Friends and Relatives – as that’s the sort of travel a lot of us want to do in the Christmas- New Year holiday period, to re-engage with loved ones near and far.

Like many others, you have definitely missed out on securing some of the most popular treasured travelling treats this Christmas.

They’re booked out already, or in some cases, airlines haven’t provided enough flights to cater for demand, according to Suraj of Helloworld Travel.

If you’re thinking of a Lapland trip for Christmas – to visit Santa’s homeland and see the distinctive reindeers – you better start thinking seriously about booking in for travel dates in 2026 now.

You can fulfil your childhood dream of gliding through snowy landscapes on a reindeer sleigh ride. Experience the enchantment of Santa Claus Village and even meet Santa himself. But you better bring your family along, so altogether you can embrace the spirit of the season in this unforgettable winter wonderland.

But if that is not to your taste, how about a festive foray to some of Europe’s most magical Christmas markets?

The very well-travelled Suraj reminds us that one of the best tours he has ever done was Trafalgar’s Christmas Markets of Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

He tells us you can write your very own Christmas story when your journey begins in Vienna with a sightseeing tour, embracing Parliament and City Hall to the grand State Opera House and Hofburg Palace. That was once the winter residence of the Habsburgs, one of the most powerful royal houses of Europe.

Once in Germany, you will revel in Munich’s Christmas market. You’ll be dazzled by the display of twinkling lights and listen to carol singers under a magnificent Christmas tree.

After a lot more excitement and exploration, you leave Munich to travel through the romantic Bavarian countryside en route to Oberammergau, which hosts the poignant Passion Play every 10 years.

A winter wonderland beckons, as you will see the ski jump that towers over Innsbruck before continuing to Vaduz to view its castle, perched perfectly above the Liechtenstein capital. Then you get to Lucerne in Switzerland to see the Lion of Lucerne. All this and much more.

But Suraj tells us that Christmas tours like this are in great demand. So, as you get ready for this festive season, it’s time to talk to your travel agent about booking in for the best of Christmas travel in 2026.
