From festive concerts to arts and crafts, a range of fun events and activities will be available for the community to enjoy at Redland City Council venues throughout the Christmas period.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) and Redland Libraries were among the venues offering festive fun for all ages.

“The Libraries program includes Create and Connect craft sessions for adults, family movie screenings, and a very special visit from Mrs Claus at Victoria Point Library on Christmas Eve for children aged three to five years,” the Mayor said.

“The Create and Connect sessions will allow participants to make festive items such as yarn decorations, felt gumnuts, jolly brush Santas, and a snowman shelf sitter.

“These sessions are free to attend and will be held at all Redland City Libraries, including Point Lookout and Dunwich.

“Sessions are filling up fast, so make sure you go to Council’s website to secure your place.

“There will also be fun, creative activities for children to enjoy in the lead up to Christmas as part of the school holiday program at Redland City Libraries.

“Activities include Christmas sand art, bauble weaving, and even an opportunity to make a life-sized gingerbread house using cardboard construction kits and 3D printed materials.”

The Mayor said the RPAC program would feature a mix of free and ticketed performances and events, making it a great location for festive outings.

“This year’s line-up includes carols and festive favourites by The 7 Sopranos and a performance of Christmas Actually, featuring songs from the hit Christmas movie Love Actually,” the Mayor said.

“Returning to RPAC this year is the Bubble and Lighting Extravaganza, which will include bubble shows, light displays, and fun for all ages on selected evenings in December.

“Other festive events at RPAC include Brisbane Excelsior Big Brassy Christmas, A Merry Motown Christmas, and a free Redlands Sings! event.

“Bookings for all ticketed shows are available through the RPAC website or Box Office until sold out.”

Redland Art Gallery (RAG) and Redlands IndigiScapes Centre will also be hosting events and activities in the lead-up to Christmas.

“Redland Art Gallery will host free drop-in sessions, one of which is an explore and draw activity where children can embark on a creative treasure hunt through the gallery’s exhibitions,” the Mayor said.

“At IndigiScapes, key events include the much-loved Eco Markets, a big backyard play date, a minibeast safari for children, and an upcycling workshop – perfect for those wanting to enjoy a more sustainable Christmas.

“There will also be a Festive Foliage craft workshop where people of all ages will be able to make their own Christmas wreaths using native plants, dried fruit, twine and ribbon, while also learning about the differences between native, exotic and invasive plants.

“More details about the Eco Markets on 6 December, which will also feature a special ticketed breakfast on sustainable fashion hosted by Ranger Stacey, are available on Council’s website.

“These events and activities are part of the Christmas on Redlands Coast program, which also includes lighting installations across five locations, free festive flicks, the lighting of the city Christmas tree, and augmented reality experiences.”

Local schools, churches and community groups will also be supporting the program with a wide range of festive events and activities, including markets, concerts, pottery workshops and gingerbread house decorating.
