How can I consider anything that the NRL has produced last weekend, or for that matter, maybe for decades, without highlighting the fantastic entertainment package delivered by the Canberra Raiders and the Brisbane Broncos.
This game did have everything and was a turbo boost of expectations for the remaining games that take us to the Grand Final.
In my opinion, Ricky Stuart should be Coach of the Year! What he has moulded his Raiders team into is a feat in itself. Week in, week out, he has every player playing to their potential.
When you consider Craig Bellamy at the Storm and Ivan Cleary at the Panthers, the game is certainly blessed with coaching talent.
But it is the players who capture the imagination of the fans, and what we saw in Canberra over the weekend was awe inspiring.
Broncos fullback Reece Walsh could well be the most exciting superstar player we have seen for many years, and you know what, I think he is going to get even better.
His coach Michael McGuire has a reputation as a hard-nosed type of guy, and maybe that approach is what will catapult Walsh to even greater heights.
But whatever the future holds for this once-in-a-lifetime player, Walsh is an NRL marketing dream. But let’s not forget, the Broncos fullback has got an outstanding team of players around him.
Even though Walsh was responsible for many of the great moments during the epic battle against the Raiders, his team mates kept turning up – and slowly but finally, got their nose in front during golden point to win the game in the 94th minute with a Ben Hunt field goal.
It was one of those games, neither team deserved to lose.
