BILLIARDS players of all ages received a masterclass last week when world champion Peter Gilchrist visited the Redlands RSL Snooker & Billiards Club.

Gilchrist was joined by World Billiards managing director Jason Colebrook, taking two instructional sessions at the RSL where they imparted their knowledge of the sport.

Originally from England, Gilchrist joined his local billiards league at age 12 and has been hooked ever since.

He won junior championships and amateur championships in Britian before going on to win the World Championship five times across four decades.

When teaching younger players,Gilchrist said there was always something new to learn.

The pair, who both now reside in Singapore, were in South East Queensland for Queensland Open Billiards Championship, an Australian and world ranking event held in Redcliffe.

Redlands RSL Snooker & Billiards Club president Belinda Dinga thanked the pair for sharing their knowledge with club members.

She said the 90-member-strong club is the go-to club to learn to play billiards.

“Up until this year, we were the only club that actively coached billiards,” she said.

“We’re very lucky, the RSL is very supportive of us, and our members are very supportive.”
