BOAT ramps across Capalaba and the Redlands are set to receive $4.1 million in critical upgrades if Labor are successful in Saturday’s state election.
As part of the Miles Government’s Better Boating Camping and Fishing plan, the Premier Steven Miles has committed $30 million to upgrading boat ramps around Queensland.
Members for Capalaba and Redlands Don Brown and Kim Richards have locked in the following $1 million for an additional boat ramp lane and floating walkway at the Helen St, Thorneside boat ramp; $1.5 million to construct a new single lane ramp on Lamb Island, along with the installation of a floating walkway; and $1.6 million invested in the popular Alice St Boat Ramp at Jock Kennedy Park on Russell Island.
“Helen St is one of the busiest spots for boaties to launch from locally and I’m proud to be part of a Miles Labor Government that is delivering better boating infrastructure,” said Mr Brown.
“Locals love their lifestyle here by the Bay and this commitment will see easier access to our amazing waterways.
“I have been launching my tinnie at Helen St ramp since I was 14 years old so that why I am so proud of this announcement.”
“Whether it be running back and forth from Brisbane or chasing mackerel out in the bay, these ramp projects are a great step forward for our island communities,” added Ms Richards.
“Jock Kennedy Park is a beautiful spot to put the boat in so it should have facilities to match.
“Lamb Island locals rely on safe and accessible ramps and this commitment will deliver more options for boaties dealing with changing tide, wind and weather conditions.”
The announcement builds upon previous investment in local marine infrastructure from the Labor state government including breakwater upgrades at Cleveland, $48.3 million investment in SMBI infrastructure and dredging efforts at Wellington Point.
