Adventist Retirement Plus Victoria Point, offers a range of services including Independent Living Units, Home Care and Residential Aged Care.
Recently we had a chance to catch up with one of the first clients of their Home Care services.
Mrs June Collin started out working at the residential aged care facility and then chose to make the independent living village her home.
“I was working at the facility and I had a long way to drive every time I did a shift here. I was 59 at the time and I decided I’d see if I could stay here.
“They had to take it to the Board because I was so young – under 60. The Board allowed me to come in.”
Today, Mrs Collin is90-years-old and during her time at the village has been able make use of a number of the facilities.
“Later on, due to a broken arm, I requested some assistance from the Home Care team.” Mrs Collin said she found the home care met her every need.
“It is very good in that the moment something goes wrong, people are there to care for you.
“They are all lovely girls. They’re very caring. They know us all and we are very happy with our girls.
“They never let you down. So in that respect, I think we won out there. If someone is sick for a time, they will fill in for the other girls.
“Admin will even come in and help or the bosses will come and help the nurse.”
At one stage, due to under-going a shoulder operation Mrs Collin spent five weeks in the nursing home in respite.
She said she was impressed with being able to gain admission as soon as she requested it.
She said with visitors popping in and out, it felt like a “little community.”
Mrs Collin said her daughters visit regularly and are a great help along with friendly neighbours and staff who often check in.
“After my daughters, there are the carers. I’ve sort of adopted quite a few of them.”
She said she was also happy with administration staff:
“You can ring the coordinator up at any time and she’ll help you.
“At the moment they are in the process of organizing lunches that are provided through my package.”
