A FACEBOOK post has sparked a wave of frustration over abandoned shopping trolleys posing a safety hazard.
Birkdale resident Pat Frier ignited community concern after posting a photo of 12 abandoned Woolworths trolleys cluttering Birkdale Train Station.
“It’s disgraceful the amount of trolleys you see not just in Birkdale but all over Redlands,” Pat said.
“It just looks untidy and no one in authority seems to care about that.”
Pat said the post aimed to raise awareness and send a wake-up call to both the council and supermarkets.
A Redland City Council spokesperson said it worked with retailers to encourage frequent shopping trolley collections and encouraged the community to ensure trolleys were always returned to shopping facilities after use.
A Woolworths spokesperson reported that the company conducted regular sweeps to collect abandoned trolleys in areas around their stores.
