THE Wynnum Community Place has officially reopened following months of community concern over its closure.

Capalaba MP Russell Field attended the reopening on behalf of Premier David Crisafulli and was joined by Wynnum-Manly Councillor Alex Givney.

“I was honoured to attend the grand reopening of Wynnum Community Place on behalf of Premier David Crisafulli, alongside Councillor Alex Givney,” Mr Field said.

“Reopening Wynnum Community Place has been a priority of the Crisafulli LNP Government.

“That’s why we delivered $500,000 in new funding to make sure they could once again support those in need in the Bayside community.”

The centre resumed services from June 10, providing food relief, financial help, homelessness support and referral pathways to vital services.

“Fantastic to see that the same great services provided at Redlands Community Centre will be provided to even more of those in need,” Mr Field said.

“Wynnum Community Place is always looking for sponsors, and donations to help those who need it most.”

David Smith, from Wynnum Community Place, said staff and volunteers were champing at the bit to continue where they left off.

“We are back bigger and better thanks to the financial support of a government that recognised the contribution WCP had made to the local Bayside community,” he said.

“Open five days a week with a vastly expanded suite of support and activities.”

The centre’s closure in early January left a major gap in essential support services for the Bayside community.

Local organisations including the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre stepped up, offering free meals every Wednesday from 4-5pm.

State Member for Lytton Joan Pease welcomed the re-opening of Wynnum Community Place.

“Since January, I’ve worked to hold the Queensland Government to account, ensuring the Premier honoured his $500,000 election promise,” she said.

“I thank all local volunteers and community organisations that stepped up over the past six months to help meet the needs of vulnerable Baysiders whilst WCP remained closed,” Ms Pease said.
