A chance at winning prizes worth up to $20,000 awaits at least 15 fortunate anglers who manage to reel in specially tagged fish in one of seven Queensland stocked impoundments.
Expanding on the tremendous success of last year’s competition, the 2024 Fish N SIPS event has introduced two additional fishing locations – Wyaralong Dam and Leslie Dam – to this year’s line-up.
In collaboration with the Freshwater Fish Stocking Association of Queensland and InfoFish teams, Queensland Fisheries has embarked on a partnership to tag and release 20 fish at each of the designated locations.
Prizes will be awarded to the first 15 anglers who successfully catch, and claim tagged fish through the InfoFish hotline.
To be eligible, tagged fish must be caught and reported by November 30, 2024.
Acting Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Scott Stewart expressed anticipation for this year’s competition to garner even greater popularity with the addition of two new locations.
“Last year’s Fish N SIPS competition attracted thousands of recreational fishers to our regions, supporting the many good jobs in those communities,” Mr Stewart said.
Before casting your line in these impoundments, it’s essential to check the interactive search tool to determine permit requirements.
There are more than 60 impoundments (dams and weirs) in Queensland that require a Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP) to fish with a line.
With fishing expected to be a popular activity over the Easter break, fishers are urged to download the Fishing 2.0 app to stay across all the recreational fishing rules.
“We want people to enjoy their holidays, but to take care and follow the relevant rules and regulations,” Mr Stewart said.
